89 yj, 4cyl.5sp. To swap or not....better daily driver mods?
Hey guys,
Very new to this (and all) forums.
I'm looking for a sounding board for ideas and advice regarding a yj I am considering fixing back up.
My daily driver is due for a timing belt and fresh set of rubber. Long story short I'm not interested in investing any money into it and am considering selling it, pulling the old jeep out of storage and using it as a daily driver while i finish university.
With that in mind, I'm now planning on what to do to the jeep to make it a more practical daily driver, things like power steering and even basic noise dampening will likely make a huge difference.
I've strongly been considering a swap to a 4.0 6cyl and transmission (ax15?). The more I read the more I'm wondering if maybe I should just run what I've got until such a time as it needs to be replaced(currently at 190k km), at which point go for a swap. A large factor in this is that I have neither the skill, equipment, or time to do it myself so all but the basic prep work would have to be sourced out. Obviously a great deal of variables to be considered but anyone have a ball park estimate on cost of such a swap? 3 grand? 5 grand? 10 grand?
I've been searching online and reading everything I can find ("search" and I are friends) but was hoping those of you with experience could perhaps steer me in the right direction for relatively inexpensive mods that could also be done. If anyone has any links to good soundproofing builds or audio installations that would be greatly appreciated.
Apologies for the lack of focus / direction in this post. Guess I'm asking if a swap is really worth it and what I can do to make my yj a better daily driver.
Any and all comments are all welcome and appreciated.
Thanks
Canuk
