Canada Rear seat won't fold forward

Hi Gang,

Just bought my first Jeep... 2000 TJ; nothing modified or altered. Happy so far, but I cannot figure out how to flip the rear seat forward. The top section folds down no problem, but the driver's side seems to be attached to the floor and won't budge. The manual says just flip it forward, but no go for me.

Anyone who knows the obvious magic words I'm missing please fill me in,

Thanks in advance.

There's a thing-a-ma-jig down there somewhere you have to yank on. But seriously, my back seat has been out for months and it's not going back in anytime soon. I don't think I have a flipper in my 98, I just remember folding the seat forward, pulling out a couple of pins and cir-clips and that old rear seat just fell right out. It's a beautiful rear seat but I need it not anymore.

For my 2005 the "fold and tumble" happens automatically: when I pull on the lever on the top back of the bench it releases two hooks on the rear bottom of the seat part that hold it to the floor, so it folds and tumbles forward in one move. If I want to remove the seat alltogether, once it is folded you can see a bent bar at the bottom of the seat portion (from the trunk), push/pull on that and the two hooks at the front bottom of the seat part (the one that pivots during the tumble forward) are released and you can wiggle the seat out.

If your first one move doesn't work it could be anything from your rear hooks are stiff or jammed (you can sort of access them from the trunk, but it's tight) all the way to the more complicated issue, some cable that links the top lever to the hooks is snapped.

Hope that helps!

I have a 2000TJ and their is a single latch to pull back to release on the bottom left hand side of the rear seat.

I figured it out. The latch bolt was hanging up on the piece of metal attached to the wheel hub. I just had to nudge the seat over a little and it flipped up.
