To answer the question, it depends on the parts and accessories.
What are you looking to use from the rolled 04?

Re: HELP what years are compatible with each other ?
Hi and thanks so much... the main thing Im looking to use for parts is the 4inch pro comp lift from my 04 jeep. Im a single mom of three and by no means a mechanic ( but I AM learning- with the help of people like you). I guess I just wondered if say - the alternater went or a u joint ... right down to a fog lamp or a broken glove box latch. ( sort of thing) I think maybe the parts are more precise than I imagined. Im definately buying back my electric lime tj from the insurance company anyway - there's no way my jeep - rolled or not- belongs in some stupid junk yard for parts... I have a feeling that you'd understand how I feel. lol
Thanx so much for your help and please ! feel free to send more

Re: HELP what years are compatible with each other ?
1997-2003.5
2003.5-2006
That is the general break down for for hard tops the 2003 uses the "new" style with the vent in the tail gate and 2002 down uses the vent in the hard top like the YJ (usually)
There is also some dash styling changes from the early TJ like the center console bezel gets rounded rectangular cut outs rather than squared corners etc.
The HVAC system also has some changes betwwen 2003.5 and up....condensor and lines have a change up.
The ECU's also change and cannot be swapped from the early years to the later editions and vice versa.
Speedometers have a change up from mechanical driven gears to a electronic pulse sensor...starting(I beleive) with the first model of Rubicon)
Steering Boxes change up as well in 2003(I believe) and are not interchangable.
There is alot more but the brain is a little fuzzy today......here is a general overview I found on the TJ:

Re: HELP what years are compatible with each other ?
^^Great list^^
Stock TJ Specifications - JeepForum.com is useful as well.
Seems to me the logical way to do this is to buy an 03-06 with the engine, axles and transmission suited for what you do with your Jeep. Your rolled one will have tons of great stuff you can use in the new one.
Imagine you're Jeep shopping and you see a great Jeep that's mechanically sound, but the state of the interior and exterior trim is really poor. Shredded seats, threadbare carpets, dysfunctional gauge cluster, faded flares, missing glove compartment, bent antenna, etcetera and so forth. Being the only one to know that you have all that useful stuff sitting around in your rolled one, you can easily say "that's a little steep for that pile of $$$$$$hit I'm looking at! I'd be hard pressed to give you more than......"
