Default 2004 Rubicon..Warranty issues!!

I have a 2004 Rubicon with approx. 52000km and my engine just calved. The dealership will not warranty it because they say a dent in the oil pan caused damage to the oil pump. The oil pan is dented up about 2" but this did not cause my oil or check engine light to come on and my oil pressure did not drop. Has anyone had this happen to them? Let me know what you think?

Unfortunately, they are right. Most oil warning systems are shady at best. A dented oil pan, in the right spot can spell disaster for an engine. I am feeling your pain right now, on this... because that is not a cheap fix.

If possible, you may be able to negotiate with your dealer, and shmooz them into pushing it through for you. This is unlikely for a different result. Worst case, there are a few TJ's around London, Ontario in the wrecking yards. Most have had the axles tranny's pulled from them already. But the engines are usually there. WJ engines fit as well, so it wont be hard to find one.

Good Luck friend, Dougy

I'm just waiting for my days off to talk it over with them. Thanks for your take on the matter Dougy.

I don't know where you are located, but check and see if there are any JEEP clubs in your neighbourhood. They may have a wrench they go to, that is cheaper then the dealer. Ask around, make sure they are reputable. That is if the dealer gives you the same result.

Just to fill you in on what's going on. I did get up to Dodge on my days off and took a look at the oil pickup and found that it was not damaged at all?! What I also found is that they drove my Jeep and snapped the rod off and put a huge hole through my block. They are giving me the run around and telling me that they have no idea what happend....BS!! Anyways I'm now in the process of talking to the owner and Chrysler Canada. If you want the worst service in the world just come to Fort McMurray AB!!

Yikes!! Ok, from here, I do not know what to tell you. If you were closer to me, I would help you out with a reasonably priced install, or something. Ohh man, I would not want to be the guy having to explain that situation. Good luck bro.

Thanks for your concern Dougy. I just got off the phone with the owner of the dealership and it was a heated discussion to say the least. At one point he hung up on me and I quickly phoned him back telling him to never hang up on me again. He admitted to wrecking my block and agreed to by me a new block out of his own poket which is good but still have to rebuild myself. I am going to call Chrysler Canada now and see what they can do, if that fails then I will purpose to the owner to by me a short block and I will put it in myself. I will sweeten the deal by saying this will be the last time I will bother you about warranty work. What do I have to loose eh?!

Hey there, sorry to hear about your luck. In Ontario we have the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council ( OMVIC ) which helps mediate situations like these, I wonder if Alberta would have something similar. Also see if you can contact the Used Car Dealers Association ( UCDA ) as they may be able to help if they are in Alberta ( can't remember if they're provincial or federal ). The Better Business Bureau may like to hear how you are being treated as well. Again, sorry about your luck and hope it all gets resolved on their dime!

Dealerships will try to get out of anything they can and do. If ya got a dented oil pan, replace it and dump the old oil back in there and then take it in. If you drown it, take the TB off and clean it spotless, and a new filter and change the oil. Don't give them anything to come back on you with. You can go to a different dealership if you got more than one in your city or town. I had a dodge ram that the engine was going and still had warranty but not much. They said there was nothing wrong with it. So I purposely drain the oil out of it and beat the hell out of it till there was no question the engine was done then put the oil back in. Got a new engine out of it. Just my opinion though, it has never backfired on me yet.
