what speakers are you guys using in a cj7 dash?
I am adding speakers to my cj7 and would like to put some speakers up front
in the dash. I have a speaker box in the rear and would just like a little
high and mid frequency up front. I know the cj7 dash size is 5 1/4 round
speakers but crutchfield.com says they stock nothing that fits. it seems I
need a speaker with a spacer so the cone will not hit the dash. I would
like to use the stock location in the dash with out to much hassles does
anyone know a brand or model that will fit? carmine

Hi Carmine,
I use a pair of Boston Acoustics that fit perfectly. That was years ago and
I don't know if they're still available or not. I got them at a place here
in Wisconsin called American TV--a big electronics outlet. I was able to
slide them up behind the dash and you can't see that they're not stock. Some
guys cut the grills and make big holes to get the speakers in. ARRRGH. The
look great and the sound is very clean and high quality.

Carmine,
I put a pair of Sony "Xplod"s in there. I just used a couple of nuts on
each stud as spacers in front of the speaker to allow space for the cone.
There's more than enough room on the studs behind the dash.
If you don't want the spacers, Radio Shack sells a real cheapo pair of
speakers that will fit without the studs. Beware, as they are the old
paper type and won't stand up to a lot of moisture.
But I'd go with the spacers. They've been in since last spring, including
the summer stint with only the bikini top.
