Tuffy Products
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a tuffy overhead locker for my TJ. I noticed
they make a single box now to go with the twin box overhead. I'm 6'2" and
wondering if headroom will be a problem? I'm thinking the single might be a
better solution. Any comments would be appreciated.
Have a great evening!

Re: Tuffy Products
I could be mistaken, but I thought the single box unit was for jeeps that
didn't have as much room due to front roll cages installed. The double box
unit installs onto the footman loop on the front windshield frame and I
think the single box unit has the round clamps on the front like both units
have on the back. Like I said, I could be mistaken... just ask my wife...

Re: Tuffy Products
The new Single Compartment Overhead Console offers an extra 3-4" of
headroom above the driver and passenger. I am 6'4" and have to work
pretty hard to hit my head on it. About the only way I can do it is
to bounce up, sideways, and forward all at the same time.

Re: Tuffy Products
Like when you're offroad? Or are you saying that even offroad you won't
hit your head?

Re: Tuffy Products
TJim,
You are correct on your description of the older Simgle Compartment
Overhead Console. There is a new design that will fit up to the
windshield like the double compartment model. The new design also is
a lot smaller in the area above the driver and passenger so that there
is more headroom.

Re: Tuffy Products
Sorry for the delayed replys. Haven't been able to check the board
lately.
I can't tell you that it is impossible to hit your head on the new
Overhead Console, but it doesn't seem very possible. I tested one out
for a couple of days on the Hole in the Rock trail which is extremely
rough (bouncy and rough, not extremely difficult)without even thinking
about the console being above me. Again, I am 6'4", so my head is
pretty far up there. I actually worry more about hitting my head on
the rollbar by the door.
The entire box is constructed out of steel, so there is no padding.
