Transmission slipping when cold then stops
I have a 1996 JGC 4.0L with AT
The transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear. Only
happens in the morning and stops after a few minutes after having
shifted through to 4th a few times. (or warming up) Weather is not
that cold here yet in Maryland.
Any thoughts? Is this doom for the trans???

Did you check the fluid level? Could be low.
- Shift cable out of adjustment
- Throttle "kick down" cable out of adjustment
- Valve body faulty
- Solenoid faulty
- Internal tranny problems (rebuild)
All but the last can be done with a bit of work.
Start by checking the kickdown cable.
By the TB there will be a cable that runs down
to your tranny. Where this mounts there is a big
block thing with a pushbutton release.
With the engine off and tranny in Park.
Push the cable release button and push the cable back into
the sheath. Then rotate the throttle to wide open.
The cable will automatically adjust.

Only thing I can think of to add would be whether or not the
'96 model ZJ also had the Park detent recall and if it did,
whether you might have had it installed recently and the
tech may have boogered the cabling to the transmission.
