TJ tranny swap - what's involved?
Thinking I might want to swap out the AX-15 in my 97 TJ for an auto,
but I'm wondering if that's practical? Besides the trans, what else
will need changing? I thought possibly mounts, driveshafts, maybe even
the console and brake pedal - what else?
What about the electronics?
Any insights are appreciated.
Thanks,
-Ed

You might need a radiator if the one in your Jeep doesn't have a tranny
cooler.

You are better off selling the manual and buying an automatic.

Re: TJ tranny swap - what's involved?
I am a few others have had good luck swapping in AW4 transmissions
from XJ's into our Wranglers. It's not a very complicated swap for
someone with average mechanical skills and a good tool set. A good
write up is at http://www.stu-offroad.com/otherwriteups/aw4.htm
Another popular swap is a Flipped Dana 300 transfer case, I did this
when I swapped in the AW4 and have been very happy with the results.
Good luck with your Jeep.
