TJ surives it's first minivan attack apparently unscathed.
I was sitting at a stoplight on my way to work this morning in my '02
TJ when suddenly -- BAM -- I'm hit hard from behind... enough to daze
me a bit. Visions of my TJ's smashed rear-end immediately came to
mind, but when I pulled out of traffic to assess the damage, there was
_nothing_. I looked close for any sort of bent metal or damaged paint,
but there was nothing, just some paint on my receiver hitch from his
license plate and an imprint from his hood emblem in the dirt on my
spare.
No airbags deployed, so maybe it wasn't as hard as it felt. Yet his
minivan didn't not fare as well. The hood was crumpled, bumper
cracked, and his plate had a 2" square hole from my receiver hitch
right through it.
An accident was not something I envisioned happening, since I'm a
reasonably "sane" and watchful driver...So much for that; it sure
catches you off guard.
Anyway, it was nice that the TJ took it so well.

Ditto on this. I got rearended once while in my '82 Scrambler, and similar
thing happened- imprint of the receiver hitch on the badly wrinkled hood of
the cab that hit me, and its grille was smashed to bits. There were no marks
on my Jeep whatsoever. I got home, though, and found the tire carrier
wouldn't open. I took it off, set it on the back stoop of my parents' house,
and jumped on it until it was straight. It's still on there today.

I actually had a doofus ^H^H^H^H^H minivan driver do me a favor.
The rear bumper on a '66 Chev had gotten a bit pulled out due to
pulling too many trailers. The minivan collision sorta trashed
the minivan front, but managed to slam the rear bumper back
into almost perfect position. The doofus ^H^H^H^H^H got sorta
huffy tho, when after checking for damage, my greeting started
with "Gee, thanks ma'am...."

Exact thing happened to me in my 99 TJ with an Olympic Rock Bumper
w/receiver hitch. This guy in an Accord hit me in the rear at a yield
sign. His front was buckled and bent and I had no damage at all. I
asked him if he wanted to call the cops and he sheepishly said no. I
couldn't think of anything else to say to him as I drove off except,
"sorry you hit me".

I too was rear ended while driving a TJ, a few years ago, sitting at a
stop light, lady (georgeous by the way) was a in Lexus sedan in back
of me, light is red, she must have been doing something in her car,
who knows what, I dunno...anyhow she thought the light turned green
and nailed the gas, ahhhhhh...one problem, I'm in front of you, crazy
lady!!!
TJ, bent bumper, ever so slightly and only to a body shop's trained
eye, I couldn't notice it, her Lexus, bent hood, bumper trash,
headlight broke too, probably $5000 damage to hers...
Oh and she didn't even apologize...
