Stinking o-rings and speedo gears
Ok, two problems today:
1. I had my wife pick me up a 33 tooth speedometer gear -- as that's what a
website (linked to by multiple other sites) said I needed. Finally get it
installed and working, and it's 10% off. Not much of a problem at low
speeds, but it adds up at highway speeds. Also, it's off in the OTHER
direction -- says I'm going much faster than I am. Also means more miles...
2. When installed the new gear, I apparently ripped the little o-ring apart
that seals the assembly in the transfer case. SO, I have fluid going
everywhere whenever I drive. AND, none of the parts stores carry that size
of ring. They said it's a dealer-only. I hope they sell them seperately...
So, I have a useless speedo gear and an out-of-commission vehicle until
Monday, at the earliest. Fan-freakin-tastic.
Anyone know of a better place other than

I just found that site. See, that's one of many that says I need a 36 tooth
gear (which, if the 3% per tooth theory is true, that would make sense). I
found another that says I need a 34...\
I now have a 33 tooth gear that I can't do anything with. I'm sure the
stealership won't take it back (although it only has a few miles on it...).
I hate to buy another gear just for it to be wrong...
