Speedo gear, which one?
Hi All,
I have searching all over the net and understand that I would need a
27-tooth gear to get my speedo back to reading correctly. I have 3.07
gearing and am running 265/75R16 tyres, which equate to about 31.7 inches
dia. Armed with this, I went to the dealer to get part no: 52067627, which
according to the dealer does not exist. The guy was really helpful and we
spent about 30 minutes trying to find all the combinations.
Then I came across Tomken, they have a 27-tooth gear, part no: SG27L. Now
because of the L, I have a feeling that this would be the long shaft part
whereas TJs have the short shaft gears.
After searching again, somebody suggested that Mopar part no: 52068149
actually supersedes 52067627. This should be a 27-tooth speedo gear. I
think again this would be a long shaft one.
Can somebody knowledgeable explain to me whether my assumptions are right
and the part number 52068149 would be a 27-tooth gear. Secondly, can I
just pull the long metal shaft out of the plastic gear and insert the short
metal shaft? Or can I just cut the longer shaft to correct length to match
the short shaft? Could this work. If this can work, then I can probably
get the part from the dealer and make it work rather than import it from
the US and pay relatively huge shipping for a cheap part.
Thanks Jeoples, you have guys/gals have been very helpful in the past.

Re: Speedo gear, which one?
Thanks for the info. It does confirm that I'll need 27-tooth short shaft
gear, which is great. But its not a dealership part and Teraflex or Tomken
don't have dealers in New Zealand. Somebody suggested that the dealer
might have a 27-tooth long shaft gear. My question is, can I interchange
the shafts between the one I have and the new one that I buy so that I have
a working 27-tooth short shaft?
I have left messages with Teraflex and their retailers in the US, but
nobody has come back to me whether they could ship it here. I know
shipping would be a lot more that the actual part.
Thanks

gear, which is great.
Thanks
