And if you hose down the engine regularly (as in removing mud and such) and
get water on the underside of the hood, you'll get very adept at replacing that
light bulb.

Remember to clean and fill that connector with dilectric grease or
the wires will corrode from the heat/moisture.

Re: How to Change Engine Compartment Light
Yep, I've replaced bulb on my '02 TJ 3 times. I finally learned to tape a
plastic baggie around the underhood light, before hosing.

Re: How to Change Engine Compartment Light
Do what I do. Put the bulb in your tool box, the one in your garage. I
personally do not see the utility of these under hood lights. What am I
going to do, check the oil at 3 AM? How much use is it going to be in case
of a breakdown? If you actually intend to perform repairs on the road side
or trail, you are going to have a tool box and a real source of light,
aren't you?

It was really handy to me when I got a flat at midnight in the middle of
no-where.

Re: How to Change Engine Compartment Light
Around here in the winter it is dark going to work
and dark going home from work. Just checking the oil
on the way to work or on the way home is a good reason
to have the light. Heck even to refill the windshield washer
fluid (which by the way is a frequent event during winter)

Re: How to Change Engine Compartment Light
It you don't trust the switch to turn the lights off, then you need to get
your wire cutters out.

Appears to be on Fuse 24 in the engine compartment
fuse box if I am reading the schematics correctly.
Fuse 24 also covers the under dash courtesy lamps
and dome light. FYI JELo

Re: How to Change Engine Compartment Light
It's not a switch though is it?
When I opened it up, it's some sort of metal flap that flops onto the
connection when the hood is up. The second a bit of corrosion enters
or something buggers up the movement of that you have instant battery
woes.
No?
