problems with engine stalling and cutting out.
I have an 89 YJ with a 4 cyl. I have newly rebuilt engine with 500
miles on it. I have a new egr valve, alternator, and fuel injector.
When I engage first gear, the engine stalls and dies. Unless I sort of
prime the motor by letting off of the clutch and giving it gas a
couple of times. After I am driving the engine stalls and sounds
flooded when I go below 1900 rpm's or so. As long as keep the rpm's up
there is no issue.
The engine idles at @ 1000 rpms and doesn't have any problems until
the clutch is let out.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Almost sounds like a vacuume leak. Start the engine and spray
some TB cleaner around the base of the throttle body and along the
intake rail gasket and injectors. Listen for an engine stutter.
If you hear it, you found a leak.
Quick question. Fuel injector as in one? or does your engine use
TBI (Throttle body injection)? Injectors as a rule should all be
replaced at the same time or you can get fuel delivery problems.

Re: problems with engine stalling and cutting out.
1000 rpm at idle?
That sounds like something is messed up so the person setting it up
tried to compensate by jumping the idle way up.
If you can figure out why it won't idle at 700 or so, you probably will
have figured out the problem.
New engine, hmmm....
The timing chain could be off a tooth or something in the vacuum system
has a leak or maybe just something simple like the TB has come loose.
Carbs and TB's have a sneaky tendency to come loose after a rebuild, so
does the manifold where it joins the head.
