Funny how the military does tend to expect you to show up for all of
them unless you have been explicitly excused in advance. The term
for those who don't show is "AWOL".

Not really. TDY is temporary duty where you are away from your normal
post and get actual TDY pay for being thus detached. Fairly good
source of income if you have a skill the military actually wants.
You can be excused from duty to attend class, special civilian
training, etc. etc, but that is not TDY. Gee, I'd expect such a
military, religious, and political genius as you to know the
difference.

Oooohhhhhh, I would have been disappointed in you if you hadn't said
that "girlie man" crack. Granted it was a bit muffled from all that
foam around your mouth, but you still managed to froth it out anyway
even though you misquoted both Saturday Night Live and uncle Arnie.

Are you claiming that with folks in power that are willing to serve
their country, we wouldn't be bothered by terrorists?
Does that mean that if someone NOT willing to serve is in power, we
have to worry, or that the attacks just wouldn't bother us?

John Kerry was attempting to destroy a cache of rice with a hand
grenade. He was too close and he took some (shrapnel and rice) in his
rear end. Both Kerry and Rassmann (the fellow Kerry rescued later
that day) were damn near killed by that grenade.
"Mr. Rassmann, in his Aug. 10 op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, said
Mr. Kerry was injured in the mine explosion. But Mr. Kerry told his
biographer, Douglas Brinkley that "I got a piece of small grenade in
my *** from one of the rice bin explosions."

When PCF 3 was blown by the mine,Kerry took his boat downstream while
the other boats went about rescuing the crew from boat 3. LT Thurlow
(the real hero of the day) risked his life trying to board the out of
control craft. His first attempt landed him in the water and he had
to try again. He finally got the boat under control where it sank in
shallow water.
The other boats rescued the rest of the troops. Kerry's boat, finally
returning from downstream, rescued Rassmann seconds before Chenoweth's
boat could reach him.
