All 4.0 engines are fuel injected. The Cherokee got FI in 1987 when it went
to the 4.0, from the underpowered GM design 2.8 V6. The Wrangler kept on
using the 4.2 carbureted for a couple years longer, until its emissions
certification expired. Then it too went to the 4.0.
