Left Front Tire Wear 2001 TJ with Factory Canyon RIm Package
Canyon rim package 30x9.5x15 Goodyears Factory Issue tires
I have an unusual cupped type wear pattern on my left front tire.
After aprox 6000 miles I rotated out the front left tire to the spare
tire carrier because these cupped wear patterns where causing alot of
vibration.
Another roation because of cupped tire wear on the new left front at
14000 miles caused me to rotate the 2 front tires to the back axle.
Now at 30000 miles the left front tire is again cupped and so worn
that I have grounded the jeep until the problem is fixed.
I understand complety that I have not followed the recommended
rotation pattern or mileage interval
The jeep is still under warranty until may 0f 04 or another 6000 miles
so I took it to the dealer for repair. They said the supension and
alignment checkout ok and that it is lack of proper rotation that is
causing the problem.
My question is why is the left front tire showing this choppy/cupped
wear pattern while the right front is wearing normally? I want to go
to new tires ( Goodwear MT/R 31x10.5) but don't want to replace them
until I know that the problem is fixed.
Is the dealer taking me for a ride ? they are known for good honest
service, but I still question their diagnosis.
The jeep is currently a highway machine and has been most of its life
with very little off road activity.
Thanks for the help

That's your answer then... you Jeep is not getting enough 'rim'.... ;>)
Seriously, cupping on only one side is caused by something
being loose. Tie rod end, ball joint, wheel bearing, etc.
Take it to a real front-end shop and have it thoroughly gone
over... then take the bill to your dealer.
