Jeep emissions work in Davis, CA
Hey,
Anyone know a jeep-friendly mechanic who can do emissions work on a '85
Jeep CJ7 in the Davis, CA area? I had it Nutter bypassed just fine for
a few years, and then it failed smog as a gross polluter. I tried to
put everything back, but not everything seems to be working now
(computer or stepper motor seems to have issues). I don't want to go
pay for the initial retest+inspection that a shop will charge, since
I've already mostly isolated the problem myself.
It would be nice to find someone already familiar with this specific
issue, rather than a regular mechanic who will spend a long time (and
time==$$) figuring out the system initially.
Cheers,
C

Ok, if it was fine for a few years, why not just fix what is now broken
rather than try to put it all back like it was years ago?
What were the emissions readings?
Tune ups do them wonders, mine eats caps and rotors..... A carb kit is
needed every couple years. They only cost $20.00 or so.

Hi Chris,
A new catalytic converter will work wonders:
http://www.tifac.org.in/do/hgt/case/convert.htm I'd yank the computer
right back out of there, seeing that and the step motor haven't worked
in ten years, just make the rest of it pass the visual, covering wire
and hose ends: http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/list.htm Put a ten dollar
kit in POS BBD Carter: http://www.carburetorfactory.com/expvw03.html
This is my last SMOG on my Bronco with over three hundred and fifty
thousand miles, and the heads have never been off:

LOL....."Nutter" and "gross polluter" in the same sentence. Imagine that!
What you need is the "real" mechanic, Mike. He "Nuttered" his CJ and gets a
sweet 23mpg while smoking the tires off it in 5th gear from a stop. LOL
