They must have had auto trannys. I can put my CJ in 4th gear 4:1 low range
and stay with the others (what have you to say about that Nathan and auto
proponents?).

Jim, driving in 4th gear at speed in 4Lo is REALLY REALLY REALLY bad for the
gears inside the transfer case. That whining you hear are the gears
spinning way faster than they were ever designed for.
