All,

I have been unable to start my 97' Jeep Wrangler for about two days now(it
cranks but refuses to start).

After going thru the error code retrieval procedure, I got the following
error codes on the dash:

1. 11 No ignition reference signal detected during cranking (bad Hall
effect) OR timing belt skipped one or more teeth; OR loss of either
camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. Can cause the engine to stop
working entirely with no limp-home mode.

2. 12 Battery or computer recently disconnected

3. 23* Incoming air temperature sensor may be bad



Does anyone have any advice as to what I should point the mechanic toward
when I have the Jeep towed(what should I ask him to replace). Any
suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Crank position sensor failure is pretty common, though usually it's
intermittent before it dies completely. I'd check that first.

Considering what you stated in the above post, should I assume that if
this is the problem, that it can be fixed via maint/adjustment, or is a
complete part replacement needed?

disconnecting the Crank Position Sensor may wake it up. That didn't work
on my Brother's '90, '92, and 96 when replacing the sensor did.
