all right, so here's the deal, i'v had the jeep for a year. rebuilt pretty
much new everything, including the engine. about four months ago the engine
started missing every once and a while. i figured out that there was a short
in the wires with the help from a budddy. what i did was change the plugs,
wires, distributor cap, rotor, and the electrical module. it was working
perfectly for about a month, then yesterday, i drove from ann arbor, mi, to
somewhere in lower ohio, about a 5 1/2 hour drive. well, it started again.
then, today, i finished the trip all the way to north carolina. the whol;e
way it stuttered. i do not know what else could be shorting out any ideas?

 

Verify the electrical integrity of the engine ground strap/cable. A
corroded/loose engine ground strap/cable will produce such symptoms.

What was shorting the first time?

You could be describing a punky ground to the body of the Jeep. It
could be a smaller black wire from the battery to the firewall or a mesh
cable from the back of the head to the firewall.

Have you made sure the fule filter is not clogged? If the filter is getting
plugged up, the motor can run fine at relatively low speeds, but miss alot
at high speeds.

melted through by finding their way on to the exhause manifold resulting in
shorting your spark to ground for one or more pistons..
A good visual for pinched/melted wires, or loose connections is probably a
good idea. If that netted zero, I would pull the electrical module (I
assume you mean ignition module) and take it in for testing. Most of the
chain part stores have a test fixture for these.

If all that nets zero you will probably need some qualified help.>
