Does a 60th Anniversary TJ always have the Dana 44?
I'm trying to find myself a used '00 or '01 TJ with a Dana 44. I've
found two great candidates - both 60th Anniversary TJs, but I'm
curious if they always have the Dana 44 because the dealer where one
is says no... "it's a Dana 35 with 3.07 gears with the 30" tire and
wheel group".
I thought:
a) the 60th Anniversary always had a Dana 44, and
b) the Dana 44 comes with the 30" Tire & Wheel group
But apparantley I'm wrong on both counts. Or is the dealer mistaken?
I'm in Canada if that helps.
Anyone out there own a 60th Anniversary TJ WITHOUT the Dana 44?
Anyone know if it's possible?
Thanks.
Wry-mouth.

Wouldn't be the first time. Ask the dealer to run the VIN.

I'm pretty sure (from spending time on the Jeep site, that the 30"
tire/wheel group comes with the 44, but the opposite is not always true. Run
the VIN.

Re: Does a 60th Anniversary TJ always have the Dana 44?
no, the 30" tire and wheel came with the D44 as of '02. You could get a 30"
with the D35 in 01. Or you would get unless outer wise stated.
But yes, the 60th came with the D44. look up underneath it before you buy, it
should look like an apple on it's side with a mettle fill hole. not a rubber

Can't help with that one.
>b) the Dana 44 comes with the 30" Tire & Wheel group
The 30" tire&wheel group didn't come with the 3.07 gears as far as I
know. If it did they were shooting themselves in the foot. I have the
3.07's on my '99 Sport and I went to the 30" tires (MT/R's). The
gearing is now way the heck off and any decent uphill requires a shift
down to 4th though 1st-3rd are much broader in terms of versitility.
I'll likely throw some 4.10's on it at some point. I think you *can*
get the Dana 44 without the tire and wheel group. They (Chrysler)
probably figured that a good number of people would swap out and put
on their own wheels and tires.

Dealer is probably mistaken. Call the service tech and ask them to run
the Vin#. They won't charge you and will fax you an entire build-out
of the Jeep (right down to whether or not it included the ashtray
doohicky).

Something about unless you get ABS. IIRC on TJs,
D44 and ABS have always been incompatible options. JELo

Dealers are morons. The last time I was at my local jeep dealer, the
salesman assured me that A) The base (SE) Wrangler models are 2wd,
and B) Dana 44 is not an option on any current model Wrangler.
*sigh*

Not a technical reason - all UK TJs have the D44.

: Well I answered my own question... drove an hour to the dealer with
: the Jeep in question and looked underneath to find (insert drum roll
: here) a dana 35 with 3.07 gears.
:
: Mystery solved I guess. Maybe it has something to do with the Auto
: Tranny?
:
: Anyhow, found out the second Jeep DOES have the 44 with trac-loc.

: Thanks for your help.
