Dana 30 Front Axle question
I need to replace my u-joints and oil seals on my 90 YJ's front axle. But
before I dive in got a few questions:
1. Looking in my Quadratec catalog all the seals and u-joints are listed but
no bearings for the axle the only thing listed is the hub assembly is this
what the axle rides on?? . Looks like a sealed unit to me ($136.00). If this
is the case is this a high fail item?? Then it has inner and outer wheel
bearings listed for my year Jeep. What do I need to replace, the hub
assembly has lugs on it and the rotor that the bearings fit in have
lugs??????? Or is there different setups and I need to take it apart to see
what I have?
2. How do the u-joints come off there are no retainer clips the caps are
sealed???
3. How are the axles attached to the differential???
I have replaced wheel bearings in a rear wheel drive but never a 4X4 is
there anything else I need to be careful of. I am a pretty good backyard
mechanic I have replaced my drive train, Motor, suspension all with the help
of this group. Thanks in advance

Re: Dana 30 Front Axle question
Ja, these hubs are crap and I plan to replace mine, just as soon as they
wear out. People tell me I have probably another 60,000 miles and nine
years to go...

Re: Dana 30 Front Axle question
Hi Earle,
Yup, They'll probably last as long as on the front of the K Car
they were designed for, as long as you only drive it on roads maintained
by road graders, but if you take it off the road, then you'll replace
them as often as Jennifer here does with her TJ.
