Correct tire Pressure on 90 YJ
I have a 1990 YJ and have recently begun using it for highway miles (65-75
MPH). It has been about 80F here recently and I'm wondering what the
correct tire pressure should be.
On the door is says 28lbs front and 32 lbs rear for p205/75R13s. But I have
215s. And have run up to 235s.
Thanks. From Oswego NY on the shore of Lake Ontario...lou

Heh.. my old Pirelli Scorpions had 60 PSI on the
side. :)
There should also be a sticker on the door
that gives tire pressure. But there is a better
method.
Go get a big piece of chalk and find a large parking lot.
Draw a thick line across the tread of all tires.
Drive in a straight line for several car lengths.
Now look at the chalk.
If there is more worn off the inside, add pressure
If there is more worn off the outside, remove pressure
Your goal is even wear across the tire.

Re: Correct tire Pressure on 90 YJ
I just checked the sticker inside the glove box on my 88 and it calls
for 33 psi front and back on P195's and all the rest up to P225's it
calls for 30 psi front and back.
Jeeps are even for weight on the axles, so even pressure front to back
is called for.
This even weight is one reason Jeep 4x4's can outdo others on climbs and
such.

Re: Correct tire Pressure on 90 YJ
I can't see how ? My Alfa Romeo is pretty well balanced, but it took putting
the gearbox over the rear axle to do it, and even then the engine was
heavier than the gearbox.

Your right.. I got it bass-ackwards.... :(
If there is more worn off the inside, remove pressure
If there is more worn off the outside, add pressure
I blame a low coffee to blood ratio.

Re: Correct tire Pressure on 90 YJ
I'd accept that if the hard tops were metal , but Jeeps are pretty straight
from bonnet to boot.
