Simon, I've got an XJ too and am as interested in some of these
questions as you are.

Couple of questions I should be able to answer shortly, I've got a sound
bar from a 97 Cherokee (this is the speaker bar that goes over the
tailgate and lets you mount the speakers on the ceiling instead of in
the hatch), I'm going to put this in my 96 Cherokee this weekend. I've
also got a ceiling mounted console out of a GC on the way, that will be
a more challenging project...
