cherokee keeps shutting down
92 XJ, 4LHO, 270K (60K on motor), started experiencing stutter-step in
idle and planned on tune up. All of a sudden, from cold just as temp
starts to rise, no hesitation, no rough idle, just shuts down and won't
restart til cold. I did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter this AM.
Started and ran fine right up to temp and through a 10-15 minute test
drive. Left alone for awhile, maybe 2 hours, started OK, but back to
shutdown as temp starts rising. Although, this time it restarts and will
run OK and shut off/on with ignition as long as temp doesn't get to
cold?????????? Help.

Re: cherokee keeps shutting down
agreed, change it for 30.00
Just be careful not to drop the bolts inside, or you will have to pull the
tranny.
it is very hard to see.
use 3/8 extension about 6 to 10 inches and feel it good.

Re: cherokee keeps shutting down
OK, sounds like something that happened to my '90 Cherokee a couple of years
ago. I replaced the O2 sensor (that always seems to be the culprit) and it
worked fine. However, your problem sounds more like a combination of a bad
O2 sensor and a short somewhere in the wiring from the O2 sensor. Too bad
most of our discussion group mechanics are on Holiday right now, or they
could have given you a quick accurate analysis.
