Bearing retainers for 1-piece kit
Hey Everyone,
I'm replacing the seals and bearings in my CJ8 this week. It's
already got a Superior one-piece kit. I have the axles out of the
housing, bearings and seals are pulled. I have a friend with a press
who can handle the bearings and retainers. Thig is, where can i get
the retainers? I have all the seals an bearings, but this doesn't help
without new retainers.
Thanks,
Don W

Hi Don,
I'd just take the axle to your local parts store and pick up a set
of stock ones, for your bearing part number. If they don't look right
give them a call:

Don,
Are you looking for the dust shield or the outer axle seal? Those are the
only two things that are between the hub and the bearing. The outer axle
seals are the standard ones used for the Model 20. Should be a standard
part. Worst case, 4wd.com has them. If you're looking for the dust
shield, you'll probably have to order those on line.

Re: Bearing retainers for 1-piece kit
Retainers?
In my CJ5 with AMC20, the bearings are pressed onto the axles and the brake
backing plates are held in place by the bearings. The backing plates bolt to
the axle tube. I forget the stacking order, but the backing plates go on
first, then the bearings and seals (this is the order that I don't recall).
The bearings hold the backing plates on. You have to be sure to put the
correct plate on the correct axle because the left and right axles are
different. The clue to the backing plates is the hole for the parking brake
cable, it points towards the front.
