Re: ARB Rear Bumper/Tyre Carrier - Jeep Wrangler
The d44 doesn't change the wheelbase. The limit here is 2000# if I remember
correctly. But there in Europe they tow travel trailers with what we would consider lawnmower engine powered micro-cars... Ya know.... there has to be more to that because the new 4 door unlimited is longer and heavier than my Grand Cherokee but the tow limit is only 3500# "L.W.(Bill) ------ III" <----------@cox.net> wrote in message news:45276735.D3815C69@cox.net... > Hi Dave, > All export TJs have a Dana 44 rear ends. > God Bless America, Bill O|||||||O > mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ > > Dave Milne wrote: >> >> Not over here :-) >> [ here it is 4000lb with braked trailer, you have 2000lb with unbraked >> trailer]. >> >> Dave |

Dunno, but I think the hubs are a bit of a weak point on the Wrangler. (cf
the Wagoneer's Dana 44 6 stud fully floaters and the TJs 5 on 4.5 semi-floating Dana 44). Re: ARB Rear Bumper/Tyre Carrier - Jeep Wrangler
There is definitely more to it than just the vehicle weight - the
Commanche pickup was rated at something like 2000# with a manual tranny and 4.0 L engine, regardless of rear end. The same body with the D44 and manual had the same limit, but substituting an auto tranny brought you up to a 5000# limit. Now, I grant you that the 4.0 with a 3.07 differential ratio behind a manual transmission is not my idea of a fun thing to tow 5000# with but that much of a difference in what it is rated to tow is a bit suspicious. Put it in 4-LO and you could pull your house. On Sat, 7 Oct 2006 08:57:11 UTC "billy ray" <billy_ray@SPAMfuse.net> wrote: > The d44 doesn't change the wheelbase. I recently towed a 22ft trailer with a 2 ton 1954 Mercedes on it with my
Wagoneer - absolutely no problems @ 6000lb and possibly 1000lb over the rated limit (I don't know if I had the "towing package"). So the Wagoneer has the same capacity as ... the Liberty ? Re: ARB Rear Bumper/Tyre Carrier - Jeep Wrangler
I have tried local shops, but the problem is that Wranglers (rather Jeeps)
are a novelty truck here so not everybody is keen about the idea (but are willing to charge an arm and a leg). I have a few photos and can probably get the measurements as well. But would the shop give a rating on the towing hitch? I don't want to anger my insurance and local authorities (the truck is still very valuable to me, being a 01).
Thanks TW --------- "billy ray" <billy_ray@SPAMfuse.net> wrote in message news:f335$4526eaae$422afc51$12881@FUSE.NET... Go over to their showroom with a digital camera and a tape measure. Re: ARB Rear Bumper/Tyre Carrier - Jeep Wrangler
The idea is that a different front bumper will change how the crumple zone
works and how much of the shock transfers through the chasis. I know the trigger is not near the bumper. The other reason is that I may end up designing a bumper with sharp protrusions, which when in an accident will do serious damage to the other car or pedastrians. Its a stupid law / regulations, but if I want to keep it street legal, I have to comply with it. ARB being Australian, is cheaper here than US. Almost everybody ends up with an ARB front bumper (regardless of make of truck). I might do some research on what happens when people change the steering and get rid of the air bag. It may be a way to bypass the whole thing. I have seen a lot of rice burners with Momo steerings and all. Here in New Zealand, if you have an airbag then the front bumper has to have a certificate from the manufacturer (crash test and all) saying the bumper does not alter the airbag trigger and safety feature. Re: ARB Rear Bumper/Tyre Carrier - Jeep Wrangler
I believe here the trailer can be upto 80 percent of the gross weight of the
towing vehicle. So Wrangler would be allowed more than 900kgs. Although I have no need for such a rating as I don't have a boat or other toys to tow around. Agreed, Dave. It would appear that "how well" is getting in the way
of "how safely" - more of the substitution of perception over engineering fact. Re: ARB Rear Bumper/Tyre Carrier - Jeep Wrangler
That is also true here, but I'm still trying to find out if that is a
recommendation or a legal maximum. However, 4x4s have an exemption from the recommendation/requirement. So possibly a Ford F350 wouldn't be allowed to tow very much here !
