It is usually a felony to shoot a crook who is stealing your stuff. If
he threatened you, that's another matter entirely. If you blow someone
away who is messing with your vehicle, YOU are the one who who will be
in deep ----. You will be thrown in jail and face manslaughter
charges.

The only time you may legally shoot a crimainal in the USA is when
your (or another's) life is in danger and you have nowhere to run.

If you own a firearm it's critical that you understand this legal
point.

Not true in Texas. Stipulation is darkness. Stealing from you in the
dark enables the lethal force clause.

Stealing a motor vehicle, in some instances, can be stealing a "lethal
weapon" and also enable the lethal force clause. A car jacker doing a
U-turn, after throwing you out of the vehicle, can be viewed as "coming
back to run over you".
