98 GC 5.9 Limited - Power Steering
I hope two questions in one week is okay because I have another.
My PS pump died last Thursday and I replaced but have another problem.
The Z-code vehicle lists two possible pumps, one for variable rate and one
w/o. The only external difference is the location of the hose on the
reservoir. Mine most closely resembled the w/variable so that's the one I
used.
I've completely flushed and bled the system but have no assist below 1600
RPM, when it's most needed.
Did I get a bad pump or am I using the wrong one?
Thanks in advance.

My advice is to identify positively whether you have variable rate
steering or not. It sounds like the wrong pump, but why not know for
sure? If you do not have the window sticker, then maybe the VIN number
or a tag or plate under the dash will have an equipment code.

Should be a part number stamped on the pump.
