Check the belt for cracks, tension, alignment, and glazing. Then replace it
with a good quality belt.
You might try a spray on belt dressing..... if it works it might last a few
hours-days

Assuming you have full fluid, in a 9-year old vehicle a new belt would be a
good idea anyway. You might also check your tension, and the idler pulley
bearing as well.

Re: 97 Jeep Cherokee 4wd Front End Squeal when turning
Phillip,
As the other poster said - check you fluid.
I've also read in a repair manual it is a good idea to change your
power steering fulid on occasion. A turkey baster would accomplish
this and may be a couple of bucks fix to extend the life if the pump is
dying.
In the past I've also caustiously applied a bar of Fels Nappa to the
underside of the belt. This will enhance the 'grip' of the belt to the
pullys. WARNING: this could be dangerous to your body but will help
determine the health of your belt.
I used this method when I was a kid and avoided buying a belt
completely.
