Hi Earle,
You probably saved the tree.
I used to ride a murdercycle on I-5 and the winter time nights,
when the freeway would drop down to sea level, it was unbearably cold.

We tried the sprinkler trick one year at peach blossom time in Virginia.
All we got was frozen peach blossoms. Last time I looked, windmills fired
by gasoline engine were pretty popular. It seems there is often a layer of
warm air, just above the orchard in the early morning.
