90 YJ Steering Column Grinding Noise
I have a 1990 YJ. In the past month the steering column makes a grinding
noise, and though it sounds like it is near the steering wheel, I know it
probably is not.
Also, turning to the left and right is a bit harder - like the Power
Steering is going?
I drained the Power Steering fluid (though it was not leaking) and refreshed
it with a sealer. Again, nothing is leaking.
Replaced the Power Steering Belt, but no change.
Is it the pump?
Thanks.

Re: 90 YJ Steering Column Grinding Noise
It's probably a front u-joint or hub. Raise the front axle off the ground
and turn the wheels by hand... try steering left and right at the same time.

Re: 90 YJ Steering Column Grinding Noise
Hi,
I have a 1998 wrangler.I use to hear a noise while turning the
steering wheel. Under the dash board- where the shaft goes threw the
firewall- spray wd-40 or silicone there. The noise should quiet down.
Hope this helps you. Have a Happy fourth of July!
