'02 Cherokee Overdrive reinstall problem
Good evening, everyone!
I was asked ny a friend to reinstall his overdrive unit in his Cherokee
this weekend. He was recently injured and could not assist me, other than
lending moral support from his wheelchair.
I was unable to get the overdrive unit mated to the bellhousing of the
tranny, lacking about one inch until it mated. I feel all the splines were
aligned but couldn't physically push the unit all of the way.
There was a thin metal rod justing out from the tranny..could that be
stopping the unit from mating completely? I was hesitant to use any force.
Do we need an alignment tool of any kind or just a big hammer? :-)
Thanks in advance!
Pat

You need the clutch disk alignment tool. You were right not to force it,
it would have been junk.

Any chance you're referring to the OD unit on the Dodge automatic?

Re: '02 Cherokee Overdrive reinstall problem
Maybe, but I've never had any problem sliding the torque converter up
against the flex plate, then turning it to bolt up.
