Question 05 Liberty Locking Lug Nuts

Hello Peeps!

I am a new Liberty Renegade owner and I am trying to find locking lug nuts for my OE Aluminum Rims (5 spoke painted). has anyone else done this and if so were you able to find them anywhere other than Mopar?

I thought I had found some on ebay (spline drive type) but the seller tells me they are for aftermarket wheels due to a possibly different seat type (lug). I have measured my stock lugs and it appears to me that the conical part is 60 degrees and the thread and pitch are 1/2" 20, identical to the spline lugs in question. Is it the depth of the conical seat that's the issue? I don't understand why they would not fit. But am not going to pay 50 bucks to find out ...lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
While my 04 Liberty was having new tires installed, Fountain tires already had the correct half inch locks in stock, for $35 plus tax. It is best that one of your lugs can be removed to compare length as well so that one of the locks does not stand out from the rest.

Thanks, I appreciate the tip. How many did you get for 35 ... 4 ? or 5?. I assume they gave you the "key" as well? Unfortunately looks like the only Fountain Tire in Ontario is waaay up in Thunder Bay.

You will find they come with 4 and the custom key.

For the spare I used a small coiled bicycle lock, for $10, with side mounted key. That worked real nice for the spare and the coil was covered in a thick plastic material, so no scratches, sits under the cover. If that lock was exposed, I would use lithium grease on the lock inside, and key hole, then cover it with electrical tape to stop water / dirt from going in.

Any decent tire store should be able to order a proper set of wheel locks. Can Tire has the bicycle lock and may even have the wheel locks. Take one off your ride and compare...good luck!

Thanks for all of the help TC ... I ended up going to my local Chrysler dealership and actually got a deal! I know, I was shocked. The parts guy was very nice and discounted the lugs (5 with tool) for 46 bucks incl. tax. 10 bucks is 10 bucks I guess. :o).

That is good news. You got 5 cool. I also spent 45 and used a cable lock for the spare.....
One thing is for sure....your wheels are safe....hide the key....with the jack.....good spot in there for it....
PIAA lights next?
Mudflaps....
did your's have the tow hooks, skid plates and trailer hitch package?

You know what? They even include one of those plastic straps with a retainer for the key that wraps right around your lug wrench ...sweet! I can finally remove my spare cover without feeling like I am inviting everyone to steal my 5th rim! Looks more like a Jeep everyday :o

Mine came with the hooks and skids ...but no trailer pkg. Definitely want to add that, hope I'm up to the wiring job.

I had the dealership run the VIN# and they gave me a sweet little print out of the installed options. Didn't know I had Tire Pressure Monitoring but I'm kinda glad it's in there. I have noticed that they don't seem to monitor when your tires are OVER inflated ..lol. Finally got around to checking them and found that the front drivers side was at 42 psi YIKES! I thought my ride was a little too jeepy :o

Next on the list is ...
PIAA's (still searching)
filling the two empty holes with fake lugs and nuts (spare tire) just doesn't look right!
install all weather carpet remnant in cargo area floor. Original is just too clean to mess up.
stubby black antenna (on the way via ebay)
Tint driver and psngr windows, I've gotten pretty handy with the static film type.
Install Rear Tail Light Guards .. ebay score for 50 bucks!
Install OE Jeep winter slush mats ...lmao should take me a day or two :o .. another ebay score.

What's your next move ... or have you got her all pimped out already?

Well, Much has been done since Mid July when I bought mine. First up front was the Jeep OE rubber mudflaps.
Then 4 GoodyYear Wrangler Silent Armor 245-65R-17 (came with 17" chrome clad) rims. While the tires were off and being replaced I had found some real nice plastic but wide and deep mudflaps for the rear at GM so had them put those on at the the tire shop with the locking studs. Ended up selling the 4 stock tires that had 45 percent left on for $150, which was good considering the bill at the tire shop was $1300. Then removed the Spare Cover only to find that the spare had never been off and the nice 17 chrome new tire had collected a ton of dirt inside on mag, so cleaned it up and put the coiled bike lock / cover on. Then had a full diamond undercoating done. Locking gas cap (I live in Vancouver)
My first tow with the boat did not go too well. Luckily the dealer had done the wiring, find a trailer hitch shop to do yours. When I would pull out from a stop the square receiver would bang each time and was like an earthquake inside the Jeep. There was too much slack in the pin and some sideways movement, so got pissed off and had the receiver welded in. No movement no more, dead quiet but it is there for good. Sprayed the receiver with clear coat to keep it rust free for a while. Used a nice ball cover found on Duck Unlimited site of a gold retriever to keep water off the ball, looks good and reminds drivers that like to bumper ride you, what they are going to get when I slam on the brakes. Used Yellow "ULTRA TAPE" 900 candle power reflective tape CAN TIRE, on the bottom back of hitch, and on rear mudflaps to give illumination to the rear of vehicle.
On the front of vehicle went a Setina PB-400 police Push Bar. That did not go as planned. The jeep really did not have enough strong metal in there to support the push bar as the Setina brackets were poorly thought out. Was two bolts into aluminum frame from top, after the tow hooks were removed, so had too much upward movement in push bar. Designed a real fix, 3 inch angle Iron welded to bottom of push bar, with a 1 inch rectangular bar that got welded to the skid plate and bolted onto the angle iron. Now have a real push bar. Helped a bus the other day..pushed him in 4 wheel drive into lane 1 from two..no problem...all 36,000lbs of it. Protects the front if you back into me as well. Good deer catcher too. Reflective tape also put on front and side of push bar, as well as BELL deer alerts (whistles)

NEXT- Off road lights will get mounted to the push bar and a louder air horn to come up front.
2009 when I save some $- A real DVD stereo system with DVD /screens in head rests and dash
with GPS for large front screen. Blue tooth hands free cell as well
A real alarm system.
Can I borrow 4,000 $$ ??

Wow that is a a lot of work and $$ in 4 months!

Love the bull bar idea, and it would be nice to find a used one in good shape, that doesn't need to be retrofitted. My only weldin' type friend lives in Alberta, a little to far to drive over the weekend :o

I had no idea Silent Armours could run that much $$, do you like them, like night and day from OE tires?

That is an awesome bus story! I love it... your like a roving rescue unit!

The Silent Armor's are just so much quieter and better designed than the stock tires. Snow flake rated .The best overall, and winter traction superior.The sidewalls are 5 times thicker, hit a curb no problem no scratch the rims. I think I got the tires for $1100 tax in and the rest was for the locks and rear mud flap install while the tires were off, plus a wheel alignment was in there too.

The Setina PB-400 is not a bull bar, it is a real Police push bar, designed to protect the front end and for use for vehicle pushing. http://www.setina.com/bump_PB400veh.php
Even though the the guys at the dealer wow over this push bar, it was a real problem to get the welding done to make it strong enough to push... and I am going to have to raise the front suspension with new springs and struts to beef up the front end even more. $1000 parts only...in OME, but then the front end will be up nice and proud, and stronger than stock. May also do some additional strengthening in the thicker sway bar arena, another day..
Never ending how much you can carry in the jeep. I am a road rescue, carry it all in the back...flat tire no problem, have compressor, tire plugs/glue, fix a flat can too. Need to get pulled out ? No problem carry 50' 10,000 lb strap and 50 feet nylon rope too! Need water? Yup have a bucket and 1 gal fresh water. Need fuel? No problem have special pump out from my tank. Got a car fire ? Carry 2 extinguishers. Need a jump, sure..no problemo..got cables, tools 135 piece set, spare plugs, belt, tapes.... blanket, flashlights, food, first aid kit, emergency triangles, could go on...well a lot of stuff back in there..forget the groceries, they go in the back seat. So much for gas mileage...I should work for BCAA next week...LOL.
