Jeep unlimited 2012 to tow a trailer?
Hi,

I would like to know if there is any problems with a 2012 Unlimited to tow a 2600lbs trailer?

The jeep can tow 3500lbs, ...would it be sufficient?

and would a 2012 Jeep be good enough to pull that trailer for 8-10 years?

You will have no issues pulling the trailer.

I had a E2

Only time it sucked was going up a hill. But I was fully armored and running 35's (4:10's). As well as the shitty old motor.

From that Picture And the *** sag, Id say a little to much weight.

Your jeep can pull 3500lbs, But whats more important is the tongue weight, you need a light enough tongue weight no matter what.

Also, Is the JK a Auto or Man tranny?
You could use a Tranny cooler to save the life of the tranny.

Speaking from towing a trailer with A few diff trucks for the last 15 years.

Marc,

To add to what Blair and JP posted, with the 3.73 or 4.10 and either auto or stick, you can tow up to 3500lbs, so pulling a 2600lb trailer shouldn’t be an issue, provided you have the Trailer tow group that comes with the Class II hitch (max load of 3500lbs). All 3.6L come standard with an oil cooler, located below the oil filter and tongue weight should not be less than 10% or more than 15% of the trailer load. This has to be considered as part of the load on your vehicle. Also, there is a Mopar tranny oil cooler, as well as a ton of Authentic Jeep accessories, available that you can order through your local Jeep dealer, if this is something you think you might need.

Remember that everything you put into or on the trailer adds to the load on your vehicle as well as additional factory-installed and/or dealer-installed options. Everything must be considered as part of the total load on your vehicle. You can refer to the “Tire Safety Information/Tire and Loading Information Placard” in “Starting and Operating” for the maximum combined weight of passengers and cargo for your vehicle.

As for pulling a trailer for 8 to 10 years, that’s up to you as it will depend on maintenance and wear & tear. Reference your maintenance guide and owner’s manual for towing specific service for your JK.

Hope this helps!

i would for sure put in a tranny cooler if you don't already have one. You really don't have much room there for additional gear. Weight of people and gear will added up to the 700lbs very fast. I personally don't think jeeps are made for that at all. Small utility trailers are one think but big trailer/campers are a completly different beast. I think it will be ok for a little while but the wear and tear will definetly root its head and you will be paying for it down the road....8 to 10 years I don't think it could do it. But thats just me.

care to explain? The jeep can pull 3500 pounds. The trailer weighs 2750 plus my gear and metal bumpers. Id say I was really close the the 3500.

Any jeep will sag due to the trailer weight. Infact my jeep sagged less the the stock jeep I sold it to.

I pull a monster camper with my '12 6 speed. 3.21 gears made it struggle on the highway.
I installed a wireless brake controller and dexter brakes to be safe. I have not towed since I put my 35's on and won't until my gear change and break in period is done.

If your going to tow and want to keep up with traffic on the highway better do better than the 3.21 gears. I could keep up but never saw 6th and was driving the crap out of it. My trailer only weighs in about 1500 loaded.

I have 4.88s bought to put in. 4.55 should be good to get best all around driveability but due to the fact that I do tow in the summer I wanted a little more low end. The extra bit of crawl ration don't hurt either.
