I'm hoping to close deal on a 2011 4 door Wrangler Sahara tomorrow.
Black. Connectivity Group, Dual Tops, Remote Start, Tow Group, Heated Seats,Mirrors.

My question for the forum is about the closing in the dealership's situation room. They always bring up extended warranty ($ ??), Rust protection ($899), Paint sealant($200), etc.

This will be our first Jeep (We've always wanted one) and our first brand new vehicle. Had many vehicles before this. Primary vehicle is presently a minivan/grocery getter. Mid-life crisis --- it was a Jeep or a bike. Jeep sits 5 so family gets to feel the wind in their ears, too.

I've never bought any of the above before. My thinking is, this is brand new... I need paint protection? Rust? What does the factory warranty mean vs. these issues? Seems like scare tactics to me. Aftermarket rust protection seems cheaper anyway.

Interested in your opinions.

Hope to be out there very soon.

Well.... just been there and I opted out of all mentioned. Why?
Rust protection - too much small print in my opinion. I purchased this on the vehicle I just traded in and found several rust spots. The protection they apply or any protection for that matter is only as good as the person applying it. Go to a reputable company and get it done anually. Better off I think....
Paint Protection? Wax regularly; once or twice a year with a good wax and you are good to go.
Extended Warranty- I opted out, but depending on the person, situation and how long you will keep your vehicle; this may me good for some. Again read the fine print; regarding service intervals and where the service is done. This can some times be a way for the dealer to get out of Warranty claims. If you go this route. KEEP all repair invoices, just in case.
My 2 cents....

Quarryman you got lucky today!
First because your getting a GREAT Jeep! Second I Can Help.
1- Extended warranty or as Chrysler calls them "Gold Plans" Yes they can be good but for a new car I wouldn't get it(just yet) Here's the trick. You can buy a "Gold Plan" anytime!! before the 3yr/60000Km finishes. Think about this, lets say you buy a plan right now and in 21/2yrs from now you guys decide you want or need a different vehicle. Guess who gets the "Gold Plan" the next person that buys it because it is transferable. You have been paying for it but the next guy reaps the benefits. Some people would say yes but it will add to the resale value. Yes but not the full amount that you payed for it. Gold Plans cost $1500+ bucks.
2-paint protection?Rust protection? please cash grab. After market rust protection is the best and if you have a choice get the oil over the other stuff. The oil gets into every crack. I have a friend that works at one and he told me "oil is the best". I have noticed myself on the cars I have worked on that have had the other stuff, there is rust under parts I've removed where as with vehicles that have had oil protection there isn't any rust.
My 2 cents.

Good luck and Welcome!!
Don't forget to wave.

First off, great choice, good luck on finishing the deal.
The extended warranty is a timely question, as my 3/60 just ran out, however we did buy the gold plan up front. JeepTech has a great point, as you can purchase this anytime BEFORE you run out, which is great...just budget for 1,5000 or so prior to and you're good. For us this was the nicest vehical we ever bought, and we knew at the time this Jeep will be in the family for ever + a day...so we ordered the gold plan at time of purchase....rolled into our monthly payment, didnt need to worry about it.

Regardless, if you purchase it now or later, purchase it....peace of mind.

X2 on all that rust protection, paint protection....repeat after me NO THANK YOU. The "business manager' of the dealer is on comission to sell you more of these add ons. Go for after market rust protection if you feel the need. Our 08 JKU Saraha is doing just fine with out it...but I do wash and clean it offten, more so int the salty months.

Enjoy and ya' be sure to wave!!

Agree with everyone else. I have a 2011, and LOVE IT!
Didn't get all the extras, had it rust protected in the Fall by Oiltech and seems fine.
The only downsides I've experienced so far is that my steering wheel controls have stopped working a few times...they seem to come back after a few days, which is really weird. I had the clockspring replaced, but it did it again afterwards...and again, started working three days later. No idea what's going on there.
The only other thing is that I have a few roof leaks...top of rear passenger door, and the right side of the rear hatch. Nothing major...and hey, it's a Jeep.
But overall...I love it...cuz...IT'S A JEEP!!!!!
Enjoy it!!

None of the above. My 2 cents. Any aftermarkets purchases will make your Jeep yours.

Congratulations.
