Cool Do really need soft top ???

I live in northern Quebec, in Abitibi, the beautiful warm day here lasts only a few weeks, the more frequently rain ... For guys in the country, do your canvas roof serves frequently? Is freedom top is sufficient, because there is a possibility of saving some money for a soft roof that would not serve? ( I wait impatiently for the 2012 model,I am a prospective buyer ...)

How many time did you put down your soft top in the summer ???

Just outside of Mtl here, last year it didn't go on, but this year soon as I can get some muscle to help its coming off. I like it offroading when I can remove the windows makes for a little less hot (no a/c). You may save bucks on the soft top and put it towards something else. I wud if I were living in your area. I have been to the mine up there a few times years back, mostly in winter.. beautiful country up there.

Yo! Abitibien,
It's fun to have both top but like you said it's only for a few summer weeks but it's worthed.
Resale factor it's a plus.
Reality factor, you have to remove the hard-top and this need tow guys, find a place to store it, same for the soft-top in winter.
The freedom hard-top it's fun to removed just the front and go about.
But you are better off with just a hard top if you want to save money.

Southern Ontario here. I thought about it too when we bought our 08 Unlimited..and went tor both tops, resale was one factor. I'm glad we did once you get the soft top on, it's very adictive, before you know it you loose your doors too.
For you based on the fact you have less chance to use a soft top, you could go with just the hard top, and like other tracklock said the freedom top is very nice....had mine open yesterday.....for the short time yoou have if there is a day you want to loose the hard top.....nothing stoping your from removing it for the day.I built my own hard top hoist and can do it as a one man job...or like Mr White indicated some help and you can remove it....just put it in your garage for the day and enjoy the Jeep in its natural form...open air....I suggest removing the doors too. :)

Last year I had my top down 80% of the summer....but hay I'm a Jeep freek and mother nature cooperated last year...2010 different story :(

Good luck and dont forget to wave!

Well I am taking my top off the rubi U this week and it wont go back on till just before the snow falls. I like the being able to take windows out and get some fresh air on the drives and just being able to drop the top when out wheeling ect . I have a hoist set up in my shop for one man removal and storage so that helps out alot . it's all personal choice . I like both and use both .
Good luck and let us know how it turns out .

Do really need soft top ???
No. But it's so much fun.
The difference between the soft top and the freedom top is that two panels above the drivers & passenger seat can be removed from the freedom top, the soft top opens up to all occupants in the jeep, front seat and back, leaving just the cargo covered.
I'm addicted to the soft top. I got my jeep July 2010 soft top went on after 1 week, and it was removed in November. My soft top was put back on the beginning of April 2011.

Good-luck with your choice, you’ll have a Great time with your Wrangler JK in Abitibi
Bob : 2010 Sahara, stock for now.
PS: If you don't get it with your jeep you can buy them aftermarket check out Bestop Trektop

I bought mine partly because of the body colour top. I wouldn't have bought it with a black top because it's nor the look I wanted. Even though I have a soft top, I probably won't use it and I might even remove it and the frame completely.

I too think that the soft top would be fun, and esp. if there's no a/c. Mines still in its boxes since 08 and that's only because of the auto bandits and druggie car shoppers in this country. I've also had to build a soleniod hood lock that I have to activate after snapping off the rubber hood latches. It's a bit of a pita, but I don't want any parts borrowed from under the hood when I'm not watching.

The softtop and frame is not meant to be left on inside the hardtop and may be damaged if left there. That is for transport purposes only.. Your dealer should have explained that to you. Besides it a royal PITA to get things in and out of the back. Color match tops on a Jeep are not my personal preference, but thats why we have choices.

As for me;
First year, softtop didn't go on.
Second year, went on in june just to try it and didn't take it off til first snow.
This year it went on beginning of March, snow or not, and won't come off til at least first snow.
I won't own another Jeep without a softtop. I actually don't care for the hardtop at all anymore, other then it is easier to haul stuff around.

As for thieves, If they want in it doesn't matter whether you have a hardtop or softtop they'll get in. AAMOF They'll likely do more damage if you have a hardtop.
