appropriate tires
Hi Everyone
Just bought a new 2014 jeep sahara copperhead. I'm going to be using it for work in the oil and gas and travelling on the highway between Ft. Mac and Calgary..Can get muddy up onsite when the weather turns. So I have a chance in the next couple of days to change tires and pay the difference. Any thoughts if the standard (I believe it's dueller At) tires it comes with on the sahara will be Ok or can you recommend alternatives..Again lots of highway driving so don't want the tires singing on the highway if possible. hence the reason not going to the tires on the rubicon
Cheers

Re: appropriate tires
I have the same tires as the Rubi, came already on with the Arctic JK and they're not that noisy on highway. Have 45k km on it and the tread is still good for probably another 15k-20k...

Re: appropriate tires
If you got the moola the Goodyear Kevlars are apparently badass too, but on a budget the duratracs are great too.
If your going to go with bigger tires I got a secret thats not so secret but I thought it was kinda cool... If your going with say a 35 inch tire, if you get a 17" rim say imperial size 35/12.50R17 (aprox size) around 310 bucks a tire, if you get 35/12.50R16 (aprox size same profile smaller rim higher side wall) 276 per tire, thats significant savings!
Actual Metric Tire Sizes Compaired; LT315/70R17, LT315/75R16 (same overall size of tire)
NEAT!!!

Re: appropriate tires
I run both the stock Dueler AT's (winter) and DuraTracs (summer). The stock Duelers work well in the
snow and keep their grip, but aren't gonna cut it in any kind of slick "gumbo" mud as the treads just fill and won't clear themselves the way the big lugged DuraTracs will. Ask me how I know?
I've run the highways with the DuraTracs (Ontario to Nova Scotia) twice and they're wearing well and for the one snow storm I was caught in (early winter - late tire swap) they were much more surefooted then I expected. If I didn't want Southern Ontario salt eating my custom rims I would have felt quite confident running them all winter.
My nickel (can't give you 2 cents anymore) is, for what you say your up against, go with Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs.

Re: appropriate tires
Just replaced my tires with duratracs. I have ran quite a few different MT tires over the years but by far these duratracs are the most durable of them all. Good in winter, ok in the mud, good on the trails, coupled with being lighter weight than most MT tires, and gas mileage isn't hit too badly, and road noise is better than the stock BFG KM "howling growlers" lol

I live in Fort Mac , maybe I'll see you around lol
If you're going to be driving in the mines up here you'll need something knobby.. We run KM2 BF Goodriches on our service trucks and I couldn't imagine using anything but an aggressive M/T up here.
My personal Jeep I run Nitto Trail Grapplers.. I'm on my 2nd set of them.. Love them for on road manners... Wear like cement. Real sloppy stuff they lack a bit compared to some other mud tires I've ran and compared with but for the most part they are an excellent tire... Fairly stiff and heavy though you definitely feel it. If you have the cash Nitto is a good route.
