Default HID and/or e-bay Projector Headlights...

i'm looking at upgrading the poor lighting on the front of my 2000 gc laredo.

i tried installing an HID kit (in the factory reflector housing), that was plug and play, but the DRL make it a hard thing to do (NO i will not be driving this SUV in traffic), SO i want to try to install the HID kit in the fogs. Again, for some reason, its a NO GO. not sure why.

so i still want to install a set of projectors with halogen bulbs, and i found a nice looking set on e-bay with a strip of LED's on the bottom, near the turn signal..

has anyone bought these lights, and or what was the success with them?
are they actually cleaner/clearer source of light than the factory reflectors?

Mike

Yes they are better, but to offer you another choice, go with the projectors and a set of HIR bulbs. The same light output as HID's and a lot cheaper. Also HIR's don't strain the "light" wiring in the headlight wiring harness.
Two thing's about those lights you posted, they have no amber side marker which makes them illegal in Canada and the bottom LED's tend to burn out quickly.
Check out www.finemotoring.com for HIR bulbs.

These are the headlight/ projectors that I have.

Got them on ebay, (x3Racing) cost was 150.00 US, shipping with UPS 150.00 US (#$%$#$%^ UPS) + GST, so I paid around 370.00.
The HIR bulbs for the low beams are 25.00 US apiece but no expensive shipping.
The other nice thing is the LED's on mine are a 194 size so thier easy to replace, they were orginally blue/white and I switched them out for the amber.

OUCH. I hate UPS.
never have a small shipping charge with that company. I'd rather get something sent by USPS and wait a week longer than have to deal with UPS's crap charges.

Agree with you there, I order a lot of parts out of the states and I do everything I can to talk them out of using UPS. They say it's brokerage fees but when I use DHL the most I've ever had to pay was 30.00 and it was a big order.

agreed. DHL is amazing.
I noticed your lights on e-bay and seen them with the white/blue LED's.
Just curious why you took them out for the ambers?
Seems there are a LOT of amber lights in the headlight as is.
I really hope they produce a cleaner light with the factory halogen bulbs (will get HIR's later). my current factory ones are **** poor for visibility. scary at night to be honest. my other two cars I use have HID's in low beams and fogs, so the visibility is second to NONE.
So i know using regular halogens is not compareable, BUT the entire lighting set up on the jeep just seems to be dimly lit.

I didn't like the looks of them with the white LED's, these headlights are the closest thing to "ricer" that is on my Jeep and all the white lights just didn't do anything for me.
99-04 was just a matter of punching in a code and installing a relay to have running lights if you bought a U.S. model and you could defeat it if you bought a Canadian model and took it to the states.
Another way (possibly) if you can't defeat the DRL would be to tap into the power wire and install a toggle switch, then run an extra wire off the parking lights to the angel eyes. The only problem with this would be your low beams would now be controlled through the toggle.

Was just looking on wkjeeps website and it doesn't look like that would be an option for you, all your headlights are programed trough the DRB programmer, probably why you were having problems getting the HID's to work.
