Cold Air Intake

Cold Air Intake
I have an 05 Grand Cherokee 4.7 and I was thinking about getting a cold air intake.
I've been using www.PerformanceColdAirIntakes.com to compare some of the intakes that are available.
Do any of you have any recommendations?

Re: Cold Air Intake
What I saw from those pictures are nice units, but I will give you some advice. Cold air intakes on the market today, lack a few key elements. The idea behind cold aor intakes, are just that... cold air. If you look at you stock unit, it has an inlet pullin air from beside the radiator. Instinctively, this gives you the best cold air charge for your engine. What you do not have, is the noise associated with the larger tubes, and open air filament from the new intake. Take a look at this unit I found on Ebay.

If you look at this unit, it is pulling hot air right from off the engine. Underhood temps, in stop'n'go traffic, can reach 550'F. So in real world situation, you could cause you engine to lose power. Ignition timing is based on intake temp, knock sensors, and fuel management. If your engine is getting hot air, it cuts the timing back considerably.
If you want a cool sounding unit, then grab one like I posted. The noise these generate usually makes people think they are producing more power, but usually you aren't. These units create more power from easier air flow, but lose it from the heat.

This unit is a little better, as it pulls air from the original intake point. But it is not shielded from the hot air at idle. you will obtain more power while moving of course, mainly because the old units intake point is now flowing air.
Take a look at this unit for the F150, it has an air dam that grabs most of its air from the outside.

If you can find one like this, you will have the best of both worlds. You will have the sound you like, and be gaining power
