To buy or not to buy a '01 WJ that is the question
Hey guys new here and would like your thoughts asap.
I came across a clean 2001 JGC Laredo with 148 kms, the 4.7L, full time 4WD, with tow pkg and it seems ok (looks good, no leaks and drives good). I was ready to pull the trigger but thought I'd better come home and read some consumer reviews before I got in too deep and now I'm scared . At least 75% of the reviews said they were problematic, unreliable and basicly started to self destruct soon after the warranty ran out, granted most had the 4L engine but I'm not sure if that's relevant. The most common problems being; warped rotors (not a major concern to me), the transmission (a big concern to me), window regulators (both front), tail light wiring shorts and a few other things. I wouldn't be too concerned but they're all complaining about the same things over and over again so now I'm really second guessing purchasing what appeared to be a really nice rig.
My question to you is; is this just a case of "you always hear the bad and rarely the good" or are these really common and reoccuring problems ?
Thanks for your input

Well I ended up throwing caution to the wind and just going for it. I guess all I can do now is pray to the jeep gods and hope I got one of the good ones.

I have a 2001 and a 2002 loredo with 4.7L, one for me and one for my wife
we love them, they are reliable, v8 easy to work on as injectors and plugs are on top.
common things -
I have seen is Heater core replacement required. I did mine and I have looked at others that needed one replaced as well. When I replaced mine it was not easy but I did it. you need a service manual or a download of one to help with that. once steering console and dash are out it is easy from there. the A/C has to disconnected as well.
PS Presure hose can be weaping. I have not replaced and it still is fine a year later.
Transmissions - I had reports that the v-8 tranny has been good. not saying it is bullet proof but it is rare to go.
feel good about your purchase. for a quage on a really good deal. I paid about 10gs for either of mine and they had around 90M Kms on them.
