I recently encountered a similar problem on an older Ford vehicle. I'm presuming that your bulb holder(socket) is the plastic type that twistlocks into the taillight assembly. As I said in one of my older Fords, the problem was in the socket itself, althougth it looked perfectly good, good color on the plastic,no sign or arcing- black/brown stains,Contact terminal ends clean, wiring soft and pliable.. However, the flat metal strips inside the socket housing were all corroded, where you cant see them.
you may not have the same issue, b ut again maybe you do. Don't assume the socket is good, just because it looks OK.
Let us know what you find.
Cheers,Ralph

its not the socket i hocked up my little trailer and the night running lights are not working on it ether so the problem has to be forward in the cab . had a good look at the wires there are no breaks up to where the harness is encased then i noticed that the front left night running light also is not working so its the whole left side.my fuses seem to be ok ?? thanks again Ralph if you or any other forum members have any thoughts it would be appreciated ,, thanks..

I looked at the drawing for the 97 chrokee sport.
I looks to me like there may be a 10amp fuse blown.
The junction box its drawn in shows only one other fuse also 10 amps. The box shoild be connected directly to you headlight switch. Im guessing under the dash somewhere. But before crawling under the dash check to see of your license plate light is working. It share the same voltage supply as the left running light. If its out then start looking for the fuse.
