Re: Newby
Welcome.
Sorry, bet that was a sad day, hope the 81 went to a good home.
We have the Saraha Unlimited, not the Rubi, and still under 50K, no issues, love it!!
The only thing that's really wrong with it, is we only have the one....and its NOT my Daily Driver!
Working on getting that rectified!
If you scan the forums out there there are folks complaning about:
-autos that over heat under extream use
-6SPD that pop out of first
-exploding transfercases on the Rubi (ya that's what I said...theres photos out there)
-front axle housing that break
Take it with a grain of salt I guess, how were they treated, were the propery maintained? Beat on to no end? I cant say I know of any major epidemic problems to watch out for.....
This one will be our garage for a long time (like your 81), and I would(will) buy another in a heart beat.

Re: Newby
THE CJ WENT TO A JEEP ENTHUSIAST WHO HAS NAMED IT AFTER ME ODDLY ENOUGH. A CJ NAMED DAVE RUNNING AROUND SOUTHERN ONTARIO. ANYWAY TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN A RUBI AND A SAHARA, WONDERING IF THE SAHARA WOULD DO WHAT I WANT. I DONT DO TONS OF FOURWHEELING BUT DO MANAGE TO GET INTO SOME STICKY PLACES. RUBI MAY BE OVERKILL.

Re: Newby
Welcome we went with the JK 4 door for the kids and storage space.....as well as the "holy crap" factor when you fold the back seats down and Wife and I disappear for the weekend. a bit more cumbersome with soft/hard top removal but the ride is sweet for a 4X4. See you on or off the road.....~wave~

Re: Newby
This debate is almost as heated as the auto vs. standard.:)
All comes down to what you want to do with the Jeep and were will it spend most of it's time.
The Rubi comes 'overkill ready' (agreed nothing wrong with that) D44 front and rear, 4:10's, rock track T-case elec disco and M/Ts. Look at the price delta...to get into the JKU we had to go Saraha....due to budget. If you can and $$ is ok, go Rubi, case closed.
Saraha does good on the HWY with fuel...D35 front and D44 rear, both with 3:73...LSD in the rear. Go easy on the skinny pedel, steady as she goes at 100Kph and I average 10 L/100 or 22 to 23 MPG.
Compromise I guess, do your homework, ask plenty of questions you will win either way!!!
