Red face Help with choosing Wheels/Tires size

Hi.

A few weeks ago i bought a 2007 JK Sahara.
I have to change the tires as they are probably 3 years old :D and i want smaller rims too.

Now i have the stock 255/70R18 tires.
I want to go with 16" (or even 15") rims.

The 255/70R18 are 32" and i assume 33" will be too big without a lift.
Right?

I'll use the jeep for light offroad maybe once or twice per month and the rest of time, traveling :)
No commuting (i use a bike for it).

I decided to go with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO or Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac (which one i can find ... cheaper :P)

Now, i have a few things i don't understand...

For BFG:
275/70R16 are only ~31" while 285/75R16 are 32.8"

I can't see any sizes in between.

Same with DuraTrac, the choices are:
265/75R16 which are about 31.5" and 285/75R16 (32.8")

Aren't 285/75R16 too big?
I mean they are almost 33" and 33X12.50R15 are cheaper.

Can you guys recommend me a combination of cheap 15"/16" steel wheels and which of the tires i can use on them?
What backspace for the wheels and also, if i have to use spacers, which size?

TIA
